Orthopedic Massage - What it is? How it can benefit?

by holistic health therapies in Mill Valley

Orthopedic Massage is a type of massage system used during injury rehabilitation and recovery which focuses on muscles, connective tissue, ligaments, tendons and nerves surrounding joints to help alleviate symptoms experienced from muscular skeletal conditions and injury resulting from any number of activities such as work, sport or accidents.

The aim of orthopedic massage is to relieve or reduce pain, stimulate tissue repair, improve soft tissue injury, while restoring movement patters, range of motion and joint function.

Orthopedic massage incorporates a variety of therapeutic massage techniques and is based on sound research of best practices in the soft tissue treatment of specific orthopedic conditions.

An Orthopedic Massage session typically includes assessment, functional testing, and application of techniques using a systematic approach.

Some examples of orthopedic conditions that are benefited by Orthopedic Massage include:

  • sprains / strains,

  • tendinosis, tendonitis

  • plantar fascitis,

  • ACL/MCL/PCL sprain,

  • postural disorders,

  • pirifornis syndrome,

  • SI joint dysfunction,

  • neuromuscular low back pain,

  • thoracic outlet syndrome,

  • frozen shoulder,

  • shoulder impingement,

  • bursitis,

  • tennis/golfers elbow,

  • neuromuscular neck pain.

    Etc

After working as a massage practitioner for 20 years I have found that 99 % of clients experience a reduction in symptoms after their first session. However multiple sessions are generally necessary.

Orthopedic massage is meant to help alleviate symptoms and to work in collaboration with other medical practitioners and systems and not meant to replace a diagnosis by a qualified medical practitioner.

I look forward to learning more about you and about how Orthopedic Massage may benefit you.

Janet
